Dr. Youngwon Baek is a professor of architectural engineering at Dongguk University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. His former academic appointments include serving as both an associate professor and assistant professor on campus. Dongguk University is notably a private, co-educational university based on Buddhism. Outside of his work in academia, Dr. Baek worked for Daewoo Corporation in the architectural design department, for Plantec, Inc., in Tokyo, Japan, and for Nikken Sekkei Ltd. in Tokyo.

Writing extensively in his field, Dr. Youngwon Baek has contributed numerous articles in scholarly journals. His most recent article in 2017 was titled “A Study on the Campus Transformation from the Group Form’s Linkage Notion.” He has also written many papers on the transformation of university campuses, shopping malls, world fairs and art museums.

Dr. Baek is a longtime member of the Architectural Institute of Japan, the Architectural Institute of Korea, and the Korean Institute of Culture Architecture, among several other professional organizations. He is currently an architectural evaluation committee member of the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, the Korea Ministry of Justice. In his local community, Dr. Baek has participated as a member of the Urban Landscape Committee of the city of Goyang.

Named Top 10 Hottest Authors by the Architecture and Urban Research Institute in 2014, Dr. Baek was also named Best Teaching Professor by Dongguk University in 2010. Earning a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Dongguk University, Dr. Baek then completed a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in architecture at the University of Tokyo. He also served as a lieutenant in the Republic of Korea Army and was an officer of the Republic of Korea Army Reserve.
