With nearly three decades of professional excellence, Dr. Woo Sik Kim retired in 2006 after spending his entire career with Kyungpook National University in Daegu. Joining the university in 1980 as an associate professor, he progressed to full professor of polymer chemistry in the department of polymer science and engineering in 1986. Remaining in this role until his retirement, Dr. Kim also served as the director of the Technical Institute at the university from 1994 to 1995.
Alongside his primary responsibilities, Dr. Woo Sik Kim also spent time as the chair of the Asia Polymer Symposium in 1997, which is something he considers to be the absolute highlight of his career. An active member of the Polymer Society of Korea, he has contributed his skills in a number of roles over the years. Serving as the author-in-chief for “Experiment Book of Polymers” in 1993, he was the vice president of the society from 1993 to 1994. Later, Dr. Kim held the role of editor-in-chief for the Polymer Society of Korea from 1999 to 2000.
Dr. Woo Sik Kim initially became interested in the field of polymer chemistry due to the development of the polymer industry in South Korea. First certified in polymer chemistry by Kyungpook National University in 1971, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the university two years later in 1973. Having accomplished much throughout his career, Dr. Kim attributes much of his success to the support his parents gave him.
For excellence in his career, Dr. Kim has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. Twice honored with Academic Awards from the Polymer Society of Korea in 1990 and again in 2003, he was presented with the Cultural Award of Daegu City in 2004. Notably, he also holds several patents for the application of rosin. In light of all his achievements, Dr. Kim has previously been featured in Who’s Who in Asia and Who’s Who in the World.
