Sangeun Cho, Ph.D., Celebrates 10 Years of Professional Excellence in Social Welfare

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, April 05, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ — Sangeun Cho, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Supported by 10 years of practiced industry experience, Dr. Sangeun Cho serves as an associate research fellow through the Office for Policy Research at the Korea Disabled People’s Development Institute, where she began in 2016. Her main research areas are quality of life in older adults with disabilities and comparative study on the ICF-based disability evaluation system across countries (* International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, developed by World Health Organization in 2001). Earlier in her career, she interned with the China Rehabilitation Research Center for Deaf Children and Beijing Research Center for Children with Autism in Beijing, China. Over the years, she has also lent her expertise in social welfare and academic writing to Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Catholic University Medical College, and Chungnam National University in Korea. At the collegiate level, she has worked as a teaching assistant and a lecturer. Dr. Cho has prominent international academic activities as well. She has served as a reviewer of the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities (indexed in SSCI) since 2017. In addition, she has been actively participating in international conferences such as the Joint World Conference of Social Work, Education, and Social Development (SWSD), International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD), International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG), and Gerontological Society of America (GSA).

As an expert in her field, Dr. Cho holds a Bachelor of Arts in applied linguistics from Peking University Health Science Center (Beijing, China) and in international relations from Peking University (Beijing, China), and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in social welfare from Seoul National University (Seoul, Korea).

Throughout her career thus far, she has earned a number of awards for her work, including the Jeon Bong Yoon Award and an Excellence Award from Seoul National University and a Best Thesis Award from Peking University Health Science Center. She received the Academic Future Generations in Foundation Studies scholarship from Seoul National University in 2016. As a member of the Korean Academy of Social Welfare, Korea Academy of Disability and Welfare, Korean Society for Disability Studies, Korea Association for Social Welfare Studies, Korea Academy of Mental Health Social Work, and Korean Society of Gerontological Social Welfare, Dr. Cho has authored and co-authored a plethora of works such as “Chronic Illnesses and Multidimensional Disability among Older Adults with Disabilities: Applying the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) Framework”, “The Effects of Physical and Psychological Health on Life Satisfaction among Older Adults with a Physical Disability in South Korea: Focus on Gender Differences”, and “The Effects of Stressors on Life Satisfaction among Individuals with Physical Disabilities – Mediating Roles of Coping Resources.” Alongside other industry leaders, she has had her work featured in the Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development (indexed in SSCI), Asian Social Science (indexed in SCOPUS as of 2015), the Korean Journal of Social Welfare Studies, and Mental Health & Social Work. Her research interests include health inequality, mental health, and quality of life among older adults with disabilities, and application of ICF on disability system in Korea. Looking ahead, Dr. Cho intends to continue contributing to breakthrough research in her field.
