Dr. David Sung Yong Kang began his career as a student at Yonsei University College of Medicine, where he obtained a degree in 2002. Holding a medical license and a certificate of professional medical qualification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, he has also been licensed as an ophthalmologist by the Severance Hospital of the Yonsei University Health System. He is also a designated doctor with the Schwind Training Center and has been certified by the OPHTEC Asia-Pacific Company. Dr. Kang has also served on the Official Medical Advisory Board for Avedro Inc (Boston, USA) since 2015. Dr. Kang acts as the official consultant for Schwind Eye-tech solutions GmbH (Kleinostheim, Germany), a world renowned manufacturer of excimer lasers and software. He has also acted as Director of the Amaris Training Center in Asia-Pacific since 2011. Furthermore, Dr. Kang has been an associate professor or assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Ulsan and the Yonsei University College of Medicine since 2012. Since 2011, he has also been a member in the EYEREUM Eye Clinic as the Founder and clinical director.
Dr. David Sung Yong Kang’s research interests can be divided in five main directions that is “Corneal wave front–guided ablations for amelioration of aberrations for keratoconus, corneal ectasia, central islands and decentered ablations are his primary passion”, “Phakic IOLs”, “Low Energy SMILE”, “Corneal Biomechanics” and “Femtosecond laser Assisted Cataract Surgery”, and Dr. Kang researched without complacency regarding those. As a result, he is appointed as the SMILE SURGERY International speaker for Carl Zeiss, a world leader in the Ophthalmology industry and also the Present Ambassador and official consultant for Carl Zeiss Meditech (Dublin, USA).
Throughout his career, Dr. Dr. David Sung Yong Kang has been recognized for his contributions. Three-time recipient of a Best Academy Achievement Award from the Korean Ophthalmological Society, he has also received three Best Paper of Session Awards from the International Society of Refractive Surgery. Furthermore, Dr. Kang has been inducted into OPHTEC World’s Best Doctors and was named to the Ophthalmologist Power List Top 50.
