A native of Daegu, South Korea, Prof. Dong Seong Kim attended Hanyang University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1992 and a Master of Science in 1994. Subsequently, he secured the role of a chief researcher with Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea, from 1992 to 2003. During his tenure with the university, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in 2003. Prof. Kim further excelled as a postdoctoral researcher for Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, from 2003 to 2005, as well as adjunct professor with the Center for Embedded Software Technology in Daegu from 2004 to 2007.

He is currently the Director of ICT Convergence Research Center (ITRC Project, Ministry of Information & Communication) and the Head of Research Center for Korean Studies Foundation (Project name: ICT Convergence Research Center, 9 years). He has been serving for four years as an Advisor to the CIO of the Ministry of National Defense and Naval Military Command since 2016. Professor Kim was director of kit Convergence Research Institute.

Throughout his career, Professor Kim also served as a visiting professor for the University of California, Davis, from 2007 to 2009 and an advisor with Chipworks Company in Gumi from 2008 to 2009. He also worked with Matronix Company and Orion Tech. His notable achievements include developing patents in the field.

Utilizing his skills and experience, Professor Kim has also contributed articles to professional journals. As a testament to his impressive career, he was presented with the Research Award from the Kumoh National Institute of Technology in 2008 as well as being named among Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England, since 2009. In addition, Professor Kim was awarded a postdoctoral and young professor fellowship from the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2003. He was highlighted in the second edition of Who’s Who in Asia, as well as the 26th through 29th editions of Who’s Who in the World, etc.

He is the author/co-author of several books, more than 600 publications in journals and conferences. In 2018, he published a book with title “ Industrial Sensors and Controls in Communication Networks – From Wired Technologies to Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things” in collaboration with Springer. He is a senior member of IEEE, ACM and also lifetime member of AFCEA, IEIE, KICS and KSII. He got The Best ITRC Award (promotion achievement field) from Minister of Information and Communication, ITRC creative talent training field in 2018 and got awards by the Ministry of the Future of Creation Science in 2017, Outstanding ITRC (Promotion Performance) Center Award in 2016, etc. He also received excellent papers, researches, citations, recognition awards in academic journals, conferences and local governments.

He serves for IEEE WFCS, ETFA, ICOINS, ICEBA, ILTC, etc. as PC members. He contributes to regional development as a policy counseling committee member of Gyeongbuk Province, Gumi city, and Gimcheon city in the area of defense ICT business. In addition, he have been promoting academic researches and independent researches in cooperation with Hanwha System, LIG Nex1Won, and LIG System, which are major defense companies in the region. He have been publishing excellent academic papers within 2% of journals also.

He has been studying technologies for next-generations Industrial IoT platform and real-time system and communication network technology through regional defense companies and core research institute projects at university IT research centers. His current main research interests are real-time IoT and smart platform, industrial wireless control network, networked embedded system and Fieldbus.
